PAPERWEIGHT - ART IN GLASS

The last time I visited New York, I bought myself 2 paperweights at J.Crew a lobster and a map of the city.
Paperweights evolved from functional to the beautiful during the early part of the industrial revolution. As the economic engines of commerce began to generate bills, letters and other business paper something had to be provided to hold them down during the breezes that were common when offices had windows . Early paperweights were simple functional items of metal or glass. By the 1840s, a whole industry emerged in France that would transform the simple paperweight into a glorious work of art on every desktop Decorative glass paperweights fit easily into the hand and are actually meant to be handled and viewed from various directions through the dome, which acts like a lens to make design change in its appearance with its movements. Find your on work of art at John Derian Company Inc.
