MONKEY SEE, MONKEY DO

More and more you see the guys wearing monk straps whether it's a single strap or a double strap. And if they wear a double monk strap it's cool to undo the above strap, and this is why:

Scott Schuman [The Sartorialist]
“I don’t always do it but when I do it’s because the shoes are new. Monkstraps buckle higher on the foot than lace ups and when they are new they are stiff and the top buckle can dig into the foot, hence buckling just the bottom buckle until I break them in. Also I like the free and easy style of one buckle. There is something to be said of being able to slip off your shoes in a heartbeat!”
Sean Sullivan [The Impossible Cool]
“Honestly, I wish I had a good reason for doing it, but it’s really only because it’s the most comfortable way to wear them. Like most of us in New York City, I walk a tremendous amount and my feet get tired fast with both straps buckled up. So I guess it’s a case of necessity turning into a style!”
Matt Lambert [Sales Associate, Sid Mashburn]
“Loafers have always felt a bit dainty on me, so I wear the double monks as my version of a loafer. The single buckling chills the whole shoe out a little. However, always buckle up when attending funerals.”

MAKE IT YOUR OWN

Monograms first appeared on coins, as early as 350 BC. The earliest known examples are of the names of Greek cities who issued the coins, often the first two letters of the city's name. An individual's monogram is often a fancy piece of art used for stationery, luggage or for embroidery on your favorite shirt. These monograms may have two or three letters. A traditional 3-letter monogram has the initial of the individual's last name set larger, or with some special treatment in the center, while the first name initial appears to the left of it and the middle name initial, appears to the right of it. For example Mary Ann Jones embroidery will look like mJa. So if you looking for something special just monogram your favorite pieces from your wardrobe.

MY FAVORITE TWEEDS

I'm not talking about the social media tweets, but about pics where people wear tweed. When I see those pics I get that warm cozy feeling and it reminds me of the English country site. It keeps you warm and stylish, whether your in the city or in the country.

JUST ANOTHER DAY AT THE "OFFICE"

Meet Greg Wells, he works at the Gant Rugger Store at Bleecker Street, New York. I met him during my last visit, he was very enthusiast about the brand and what's going on in the City. It's fun to see him pictured by Unabashedly Prep. (3 piece suit by Gant Rugger, shoes G.H. Bass weejuns) Cool, that guys like him live the brand.

NEED FOR TWEED

Above the sales guys from the Rugby Store, New York pictured at The Tweed Run. They show us the "need for tweed", this how we should dress ours self this Fall. I met Alexander (the guy in the middle) during my last trip to NY in the Bleecker store and he is a hell of a sales guy with a lot of knowledge of the preppy style.

WHO LET THE DOG OUT

This Fall/Winter season is big on heritage, outdoors, and inspired by the British countryside, this mean that you have to have a Shetland or Shaggy Dog Sweater in your wardrobe. Pair them with a jeans or, as I showed you some posts ago, a cord five pocket. Above you see some great styles, the pile is from Ben Silver, the striped versions are designed by Michael Bastian for Gant and then their is the Rugby interpretation of the Shaggy Dog with elbow patches.
