2012 in a Nutshell.

Here is a round-up of our favorite posts and highlights from 2012!

JANUARY:

-We celebrated our blog's first birthday! Yay!

-Our vintage boutique Rhymes With Orange also had it's very first press feature! So exciting!

FEBRUARY:

-We shared a cute DIY post on how to make your own scalloped felt iPad case.

-We each gave our tired old dressers a makeover and shared the results in this before & after post.

MARCH:

-We posted a simple tutorial on how to properly set your table with your favorite retro dishes.

-It was Stef's 25th birthday!

APRIL:

-We were lucky enough to go on a month long trip to Thailand, Malyasia, and Bali with our husbands! (photos found here: part 1, 2, 3)

-We also shared a little taste of Thailand with Erin's Tom Yum Soup recipe.

MAY:

-Our little mobile shop got a lot of amazing press in May! We were featured on Conde Nast Traveler as well as the MSN homepage! What an honor!

-We also did a fun spring outfit post with our cute new B.A.I.T. shoes!

JUNE:

-It was Stef's 3 year wedding anniversary in June so in honor of that she shared her 

wedding photos!

-We also made a fun DIY retro wood wall art post.

JULY:

-Our favorite thing to do in summer is eat outside so we shared some tips for hosting outdoor dinner parties.

-On Canada Day we had our first event of the season with our trailer, Olive! It was also one of the hottest days of the year!

AUGUST:

-Erin celebrated her 2 year wedding anniversary in August and shared her wedding photos!

-Stef and Emery went on a little summer trip to New Orleans!

SEPTEMBER:

-Come autumn we decided it was time to give our shop a little facelift so we bought an old hutch and gave it a makeover and we had fun creating back-to-school displays in our front window!

OCTOBER:

-In October we finally opened our vintage kiddo's section! We were so glad to finally check that off our to-do list! Erin's sister Megan also took the cutest promo shots for us featuring our friends' cute little ones!

-After our kid's section was officially launched we went back to Thailand for business/holidays and this time we also made a stop over in Tokyo where we got to visit a Cat Cafe!! (which was a major highlight for us!)

NOVEMBER:

-We were so honored when Elsie asked us to feature our home tours on her blog A Beautiful Mess! (You can check out Erin's home here and Stef's home here.)

-We officially opened our new online shop called 'The Lovely Closet' which you can shop here. Our blog also hit a major milestone during November: we reached one million views! Wow, we are still totally blown away by that!

DECEMBER:

-In December Erin celebrated her 28th birthday and Rhymes With Orange celebrated it's first birthday! Wow, can't believe we have successfully been in business for a year already!

*Whew!* What a year! Time sure flies! So curious to see what this year has in store for us...

Our mobile shop featured in Svenska Dagbladet!

We were so tickled when a journalist from the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet contacted us a few months ago to do an interview about our mobile vintage shop! Of course we jumped at this amazing opportunity and have been eagerly awaiting the article's publication for the last few weeks, when all of a sudden last week our friend Jenny from Sweden sent us the sweetest message letting us know that she saw our Olive in her local paper!!! Eee! Needless to say, we were both beyond excited! 

It's such an amazing feeling to be published in the press, and it feels even more unbelievable when the article is written and printed in a different country! It is truly one of the greatest honors for us. When we embarked on this adventure over a year ago we had no idea that our little shop would be featured and talked about in newspapers and magazines worldwide. Someone pinch us! This is better than we could have ever imagined and we are still having a hard time wrapping our heads around it!

Olive in black and white.

We know that July 1 has come and gone, but we just got these photos back from my(Erin here) sister, Megan and we couldn't resist sharing them! She just got back to Winnipeg after a 2 month stint in the bush, tree planting and cooking for the other planters. I'm really happy to have her (and her camera) back in town!

She shot these with her Kiev 60TTL and a raging fever, and we couldn't be happier with how they turned out! You can check out more of her work on her Flickr, as well as on her blog here.

Temperatures soared on Canada's birthday, but we were ready for it!

Bare necessities.

It's safe to say that we are caught up on sleep after an exhausting, but super fun long weekend at the Osborne Street Festival! It fell on a mini heatwave (surprise, surprise!) and the days were long, but we met lots of amazing people, sold lots of cute things and overall had a great time! We thought we would compile a little list of things that we could not have done without for the trailer, during the festival!

Side note, Happy Fourth of July to our friends South of the border!

We're packing Olive up!

We're packing up and gettin' outta here! Don't worry...we're not going far! 

We will be at the Osborne Street Festival today as well as Sunday July 1 for Canada Day with our trailer, Olive! It's our first event of the Summer and we could not be more excited! She's all cleaned up and ready to go! We have been saving tonnes of cute dresses, tops & bottoms as well as lots of fun accessories specifically for our first event so come on down and say hello! 

We will be there from 11am-11pm on Saturday and Sunday, parked across the street from Urban Waves! Hope to see you there!

She's baaaaaack.

Look who's out of hibernation!

On Sunday we got our trailer pulled into the city from Blumenort where it spent the Winter at my in-laws! You could see her coming down the street, in all of her orange and white glory, from a mile away!

The first thing we did was take absolutely everything out of the trailer and deal with last years' mess. It seemed as though we got a little lazy after our last festival, and there was lots of random debris.

We gave her a really good wipe down seeing as how there was a solid layer of dust & dirt all over her!

We opened up all of the windows to air her out.

We cleaned out the little cubby, and made a list of everything we needed to bring/buy/fix.

Last but not least we loaded her back up after everything was spotless inside! 

We're getting ready to pull her  to our first event of the season-The Osborne Street Fest on June 30 & July 1! We'll be parked in front of Urban Waves from 11-11 both days! Come and visit if you're in the area!

Condé Nast Traveler Feature!

A few weeks ago we were so excited to see our Olive featured on the Condé Nast Traveler website as one of the eleven mobile shops to visit! Wow, what an honor!
